Computer scientist and engineer in the fields of expert systems and biomedical engineering. She was an early pioneer of the field of medical informatics, the now commonplace practice of applying computers to medical research and treatment. While teaching at UCLA, she designed and developed one of the first analog-to-digital conversion systems that could convert analog signals from electroencephalograms (EEG) to digital signals.
